A Walk through the Heavens Ref: B0521544157CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY PRESS This is the best book we know for teaching you how to find your way around the night sky. It is easy to use, requires no special equipment and will help you identify all the major star patterns.
Beginning with the Plough, it shows you how to find the Pole Star and how to use your outstretched hand to estiimate distances between stars. From the Pole Star you learn how to find Cassiopeia, then Cepheus, Cygnus the Swan and so on. It starts with stars you can see all year round then adds in the seasonal ones. You will soon find the sky is a much more familiar place and the constellations will soon become old friends.
Walk Through the Heavens also contains sections on the legends behind the constellations, objects to look for in binoculars and a guide to finding the planets. We cannot recommend this book too highly.
