Cleaning LensesOptics should be cleaned with care and only when necessary. Large optical surfaces such as telescope mirrors, corrector plates and large objective lenses usually require washing which should only be undertaken by someone who knows what they are doing. Please call us if you need advice. Eyepieces and binoculars usually have hard protective coatings on the lenses so are easier to deal with. Again, care and suitable tools are required. We recommend and use the lens pen which is a very useful tool. One end contains a retractable brush which you use to remove loose dust and grit before attempting to remove any marks. The other end is a soft pad impregnated with a dry cleaning agent. It is very effective for removing greasy marks and water spots. We also use it for removing small marks from corrector plates.Celestron's lens pen is a little larger than the one included in the Viking Kit. |
