Introduction to Astronomy

These two half-day courses are aimed at beginners who want to learn how to get started in astronomy, either to observe the night sky, or to understand what is up there, or both.

Part 1 covers the practical aspects of choosing and using telescopes, binoculars and accessories. It goes into a little more depth than is covered in our Absolute Beginners course but doesn't require any prior knowledge or experience.

Part 2 is a guided tour of the Universe which will help you understand what is out there. It draws on the latest results from telescopes around the world and in space to bring the Universe to life and help you appreciate our place within it.

The two parts are self-contained so you can attend either or both, depending on your interest.

Astrophotography with a Web Cam

Web Cams offer a cost-effective way of taking astrophotos with your telescope and are becoming very popular. One of the best Mars images taken from the ground in 2003 was taken by a web cam and this half-day course is designed to teach you the techniques needed to produce similar high-quality images.Click here for more details and to book a place.

Using the Meade DSI and DSI Pro

Meade's Deep-Sky Imagers (DSI and DSI Pro) offer a cheaper alternative to traditional cooled CCD cameras but many people find the learning curve very steep and quite daunting. We have designed this one-day course to cover all aspects of producing high-quality images using the DSI and DSI Pro. Each course is arranged to meet demand and numbers are kept small to ensure maximum benefit for attendees. Cost is £110 inc VAT and refreshments. Click here for more details and to book a place.

How to get the best from your Nexstar Telescope

Celestron's Nexstar Telescopes are becoming increasingly popular so we have introduced this course to help owners get the most enjoyment from them. It covers the Nexstar SLT and SE ranges which use a similar controller.

Courses are held at the Green Witch showroom and numbers are kept small to ensure everyone gains maximum benefit from attending. The course is 'hands on' and concentrates on learning by doing, so bring your telescope with you. Click here for further details and to book a place.

How to get the best from your ETX and LX90

The Meade ETX Telescope is the largest selling telescope in the world. It is small and compact, and its Autostar computer control system makes finding and tracking objects in the night sky easy. The LX90 uses the same controller and is very similar to operate.

In response to customer requests we offer a short ETX and LX90 training session to help you get the most from your telescope. Click here for more details and to book a place.
