Meade Deep-Sky Imagers are a very cost-effective way to get started in serious deep-sky astrophotography. Users have produced spectacular results on a wide range of telescopes. Using the cameras is quite straight-forward but getting the excellent results that are possible does require patience and application. But this makes the challenge so much more worthwhile and gives a true sense of achievement when you get a good image.
And don't forget that we can help you with your DSI. Give us a call on 01954 211288 if you would like advice on choosing the right model, or if you would like help overcoming a problem. We also offer training in the use fo the DSI and image processing, either on an individual basis or on a course, depending on demand.
COLOUR CCD ASTRO-IMAGER WITH AUTOSTAR SUITE
The Deep Sky Imager 2 is an improved version of the original DSI from Meade Instruments. It is a high-performance, easy-to-use colour CCD camera that allows every astronomer to shoot and process stunning deep sky photographs of galaxies, nebulae, star clusters and planets. This CCD camera is designed with the intermediate to advanced amateur astrophotographer in mind.
THE IDEAL PACKAGE TO START DEEP SKY CCD IMAGING
MONOCHROME CCD ASTRO-IMAGER
The DSI PRO is a high-performance, easy-to-use monochrome CCD camera that allows every astronomer to shoot and process stunning deep sky photographs of galaxies, nebulae, star clusters and planets. This CCD camera is designed with the intermediate to advanced amateur astrophotographer in mind. Purchase the new Deep Sky Imager PRO with the high quality RGB filter set and produce stunning RGB and LRGB images.
High Sensitivity Monochrome CCD Sensor from Sony® - The Meade Deep Sky Imager utilizes Sony’s ExView HAD Monochrome CCD Image Sensor Technology for incredible low noise and higher dynamic range featuring a 16-Bit A/D converter.
USB 2.0 High Speed - Featuring a fast USB 2.0 High Speed connection. This will allow fast data transfer. The actual download time for daytime or planetary imaging is up to 5 frames per second. For longer exposures the download time is 1/2 a second in order to sustain a higher signal-to-noise ratio. There is virtually no delay between the time the image is taken and when it appears on your computer screen. The Deep Sky Imager PRO is also backward compatible with USB 1.1
Deep Sky Imager 2 Pro - Monochrome Camera with with RGB Filters
The user-friendly astrophotography revolution continues with the introduction of the new DSI 3. It combines ease-of-use with a 1.4 megapixel chip, higher resolution, wider field of view and lower thermal noise. Meade engineers have invented a remarkable new way to reduce noise without a cooling fan. This means you can stack exposures for hours at a time. The thermal monitoring sensors automatically match your dark frames to ambient temperature so it’s nearly impossible to take an uncalibrated picture.
The software includes a zoom feature for easier focusing and the square pixels of the new larger chip make processing simpler and images more beautiful than ever. With extremely low noise, Meade claim that the DSI 3 is the world's best un-cooled astro imager.
(Please note that the colour filters are not included in the price. They are available separately, part number MEA-04530.)
The colour version of the new DSI 3 is perhaps the best value CCD imager for anyone new to deep-sky imaging. With all the advantages listed above for the DSI 3 Pro but with built-in colour capability it avoids the need for a separate filter slide and multiple exposures.
Choose the PRO version if you want to squeeze the most from your images or if you want to take monochrome images through specific filters such as H-alpha or H-beta, but choose this model if you want to keep things simple.

This fan will help cool your DSI 2 camera body to keep thermal noise to a minimum. (It is not compatible with the DSI 3)
