Meade ETX Telescopes

Meade ETX Telescopes

The Meade ETX range is one of the most popular series of telescopes available today. Compact and light-weight they are ideal for easy transport and storage. And with built-in computer control to find and track thousands of objects they will ensure that even the most inexperienced user will soon be enjoying the delights of the night sky.

The ETX 60 Beginners Telescope Package is designed to be used at home or transported easily to a dark site for even better views. It comes with all you need to get started, including a host of accessories and a backpack to store and carry it in.

The ETX 80 is a short-tube refractor which is especially suitable for beginners. It can be used with its low-power eyepiece to give the kind of view you get through a large pair of binoculars. This is ideal for browsing the Milky Way and viewing large objects such as the Pleiades.

With its higher powered eyepiece, Saturn's rings, Jupiter's moons and a host of other celestial objects can be seen in detail. Exploring our own Moon at close quarters is also a delight.

The ETX 90 and ETX 125 both use sophisticated Maksutov-Cassegrain optics, which give superbly sharp images. Two mirrors and a correcting lens produce clear, high-contrast images that are free of chromatic aberration.

All models incorporate Meade's Autostar computer-control system to make finding and tracking simple. Once aligned (a simple procedure) just scroll through the menu for the object you want to view and the GOTO system will find it for you.

Each telescope comes complete with a field tripod but it can also be used on any flat, stable surface, so if you want to take it on holiday you can leave the tripod behind to save weight.

The Meade ETX-80 offers everything a budding amateur astronomer could wish for and is also a great wide-field second scope for the more advanced enthusiast. With an 80mm (3.1 inch) aperture the ETX-80 fits the bill as an ideal telescope for general astronomy.

Beginners are often advised to start with binoculars as these allow you to look at large areas of sky. But binoculars can be difficult to hold steady for long periods, and can give you a pain in the neck. Even with the wide field of view, a novice can still have trouble finding things.

The ETX80 with its low power eyepiece gives a view similar to a pair of 16x80 bnoculars (using just one eye of course) but overcomes the usual problems that people have with binoculars. It is held steady on its tripod, the eyepiece is at a comfortable viewing angle, and the Autostar system finds things for you.

Change to a higher power eyepiece to see more detail, just as you would with any other refractor.

ETX 90 and 125 Premier Edition

The ETX telescopes just get better and better. These new versions of the world's most popular quality telescope now contain electronic level and north sensors which work with the precision internal clock to take all the hassle out of aligning the telescope. All you have to do is select your location and the ETX will point to two alignment stars. Centre each in turn in the viewfinder then the eyepiece and you are ready to go.

Each telescope comes with a 26mm Plossl eyepiece to get you started. This gives a nice balance between field of view and magnification and is the ideal eyepiece for all your early viewing.

As you gain experience you will want more eyepieces, and to make this easier we recommend the Revelation Eyepiece Kit.

Choose the ETX 125 PE for the brightest views or the ETX 90 PE if its compact size and lower price are more important.

The ETX90 started a revolution in astronomical telescopes. It was the first compact telescope with high quality optics at a price the average astronomer could afford. Over the years it has been continuously improved and now comes as a complete package including a built-in computer control system that is easy for the beginner to use.

Its Maksutov-Cassegrain optics give clear, sharp images free of any chromatic aberration. They are better than the average refractor of equal aperture and are close to those produced by high-quality refractors costing several times as much.

Complete with stable field tripod, built-in Autostar computer controller and 26mm Super Plossl eyepiece, this is a highly recommended telescope.
