Best-Dressed Astronomer

Astronomers are not noted for their sartorial elegance but we thought it was time to brush up their image. There must be some smartly-dressed astronomers out there.

What we are looking for are role models to help other astronomers dress appropriately to enjoy their hobby. Send us a photo of an astronomer all dressed up for observing. It can be you or someone you know. Blank out the face if anonimity is desired.

Here are a few examples to start the ball rolling

Ralph at Kelling

Keeping your head warm is most important. Not sure if the shades are to preserve his night vision or just to look cool

Steve dressed for the great indoors

Another cool astronomer with a different style of hat. The beer can is just a prop - he doesn't drink

Query

This could be you

Martin at Kelling

Jeans are not the best trousers for keeping your legs warm but they do seem to be the number one choice for fashion-conscious astronomers

Guess who

Not sure if it's the weight of the hat or too much time at the eyepiece but he's definitely got the inclination

Query

This could be someone YOU know

The Classic Look with adjustable padded hood to control the rate of heat loss

astronomer2

This Shy Model illustrates one of the most important fashion accessories for the modern astronomer - a woolly hat

astronomer3

The Sun Hat gives it away - how one eclipse observer coped with the cold in Turkey as totality approached

Sarah at the ASV

Anyone recognise this Solar Astronomer?

Cold but Cosy Astronomer

Guess who - he doesn't like this picture because it makes him look fat - but most of the insulation is in the clothing

Wouldn't it be great if we could always dress like this to observe?
